When the Physics Are All There, Your Espresso Shot Must Be Good

Espresso is not a mystery, it is just the physics: pressure, flow, grind size, puck structure, water temperature, and extraction time -- all interact.

When these factors are aligned:

  • Flow moves evenly through the puck - 25 to 30 seconds
  • Temperature is stable enough, 90C-94C, try not to fall too far from here.
  • Pressure at 4, 5,6,7,8 or 9 bars are good enough. Pressure at 1,2,3 bars are more like the moka pot style of espresso but need to get the time duration right.

Good machines help make this happen consistently:

Other than this, all other marketing language, beautiful terms are just misleading words, lies to lure the buyers to spend money but with mixed or missed results.
