Unlike traditional single-mode levers, the S01A / S01B features a modular fluid architecture that can be run in two distinct configurations depending on your experience level and bean selection.
1. Primary Workflow: Traditional Manual (Config 1)
The baseline setup of the S01B is focused entirely on classic, puck-dependent extraction. This setup matches the physical workflow of traditional manual levers, making it highly approachable if you are already familiar with dialing in espresso.
- Puck-Governed Resistance: Like Flair, Rok, your grind size, dose weight, and tamping distribute the baseline resistance.
- Ergonomic Mechanical Delivery: To achieve a true 9-bar extraction profile, the user applies an ergonomic, leaning downward push of approximately 29 kg (64 lbs), of weight, similar force for Rok or Flair, aiming to complete the piston stroke steadily over 30 to 35 seconds.
- Pure Feedback Loop: Config 1 acts as a completely transparent training partner. The extraction time and pressure are a direct mirror of your puck prep, allowing you to master classic barista skills by adjusting your grind alone.
2. Advanced Upgrade Setup: Precision Flow Control (Config 2)
Included in the box is our modular fluid control assembly. By installing the adjustable ball valve downstream of the filter stack, you unlock a live, real-time control variable that traditional manual machines cannot offer.
- The Shot-Saving Safety Net: If a light roast or an unexpected grind setting causes a shot to rush or lose pressure, Config 2 allows you to adjust the mechanical valve mid-shot to manually add the missing restriction.
- Grind-Independent Profiling: Bring system pressure up to the 9-bar target and extend extraction contact time completely independent of grind size, protecting your expensive coffee beans from failing due to minor dialing errors.
